Uncertain outlook for chlor-alkali market

With global chlorine & PVC markets continuing to remain slow in response to ongoing weak economic conditions, the outlook for the chlor-vinyls industry remains quite uncertain and as a result there is very little investment being made in the industry in spite of a recent improvement in caustic soda pricing.

The current market situation has even resulted in some major consolidation in the industry, especially in the US.

Growth in China has slowed considerably and operating rates have been kept low. However higher domestic caustic soda pricing has led to a focus on local sales at the expense of export markets leaving some to question the longer term outlook for caustic soda exports from China.

The phasing out of all remaining mercury-based chlor-alkali plants in Europe is adding an extra element of uncertainty into the market, with varying views on what opportunities this will offer to outsiders.

The 21st World Chlor-alkali conference will provide you with the vital knowledge you need to ensure that you stay at the forefront of the industry, with industry expert discussions and ample networking opportunities provided. Make sure you attend to participate in the deliberations shaping future markets. Agenda and speaker-line up to be announced soon.
